LIFE AFTER A HEART ATTACK: WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF LEADING A NORMAL LIFE AGAIN? WHEN CAN I RETURN TO WORK?
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF LEADING A NORMAL LIFE AGAIN?
Your chances of full rehabilitation are excellent. Most people can resume their normal life style within a few weeks or months, although a few modifications may be necessary. When your heart has healed, the scar is usually not large enough to interfere with your heart's ability to pump blood. The vast majority of heart attack patients recover fully and enjoy many more years of productive life.
WHEN CAN I RETURN TO WORK?
Almost 90% patients can return to their jobs within a few weeks. How soon and how much you can work depends on two factors: how badly your heart is damaged and how strenuous your job is. When resuming work, start off by initially working part time, or on alternate days. Gradually increase your working hours as your strength returns. Some people might prefer to reduce their work intensity or modify their style of working to one that is less taxing to their heart.
